Well, I never! No sooner had I said a thing or two about the time-wasting resource-poor police than there they were in the papers! Following my recent piece about two officers turning up at newspaper columnist Jenny Murray’s home in quick time because she had an ‘experience’ of being nearly scammed, it’s come to my notice that that is nothing in comparison to police conduct over the past few weeks.
Not only can the police find time and resources to attend an ‘experience’ but they on the other hand also have time to spend on hare-brained cases.
Where shall we start? Take Hertfordshire Constabulary, for starters. They sent six officers to arrest two parents after they criticised, over WhatsApp, the selection process for a new head teacher at their daughter’s primary school.
The parents were arrested, locked in a cell for eight hours and questioned on suspicion of harassment and malicious communications. Yes. Truly. And what’s more, after a five-week investigation, they, the police, concluded there was no case to answer. Basically, a non-crime. Five weeks of tax-payers money!
It might interest you to know that Hertfordshire Constabulary has the worst burglary clear-up rate in the country. I wonder why that is! Local shops are blatantly targeted, and the police do nothing. They just can’t be a***d to deal with crime and criminality. Which begs the question (I’ve asked this before), what’s the police for?
