Reggae. Reggae. Reggae. Here comes Jonny Reggae. Who doesn’t like a bit of reggae? Eh? Who doesn’t like Bob Marley’s No Woman No Cry or Tree Lickle Birds, I mean Three Little Birds? No self-respecting party or jump-up would be seen dead without these iconic numbers: as was evidenced down at Southbank’s Riverside Terrace last weekend, celebrating Jamaica’s 60th Independence Day.
But it looks like reggae is not just for us human beings, as a little bird told me that the canine beings like it too. They like a bit of No Woman No Cry. In fact, according to Sam Sutton, senior lecturer of music at the University of West London, dogs like the Jamaican vibes, especially when they are out and about in the car. It helps them to chill out. Particularly when their driver can’t follow the sat nav and takes them down a blind alley.
“And why do they love this?” I hear you ask. Well, as you know, reggae music originates from that special and beautiful island in the sun. I can only mean Jamaica, of course! And maybe it’s because this music is associated with sunshine and chilling out. Nuff said! Chunes, Mr Selector, Chunes Mr DJ. Chunes! Okay, Lassie, take it easy!
