Here is a ‘helping hand’ story to warm the cockles. With the coronavirus outbreak affecting more and more people, authorities around the world have strictly recommended ‘social distancing’ and hand washing. Terrence Lester, the executive director of an organisation called Love Beyond Walls (good name that) in Atlanta, Georgia, thought about how difficult this would be for homeless people who do not have access to clean water. So, he put his money where his mouth is and set about creating handwashing stations that are being distributed to the homeless.
“I started wondering how homeless people would keep their hands clean; it’s already difficult. The reality is some people are going to live on the streets and be on the streets,” says Mr Lester, who reached out to the appropriate manufacturers to build portable handwashing stations.
And you know what? in no time, loads of machines, complete with 5 to 10 gallons of water and refillable soap dispensers, were available to the homeless, particularly those in key areas, like those living under bridges – “just in case someone wants to stop and wash their hands.” How good is that? Totally brill, I would say.
An excellent piece on “Social Care” especially in these severe times. Here we have someone extending a hand to those that are “Less Fortunate”, and reminding us that “Each One, Help One”, that’s humanity.
